Redecorate with Window Valances
If you enjoy decorating your home, you would probably like to do more of it but it can be costly and time consuming to give a room a whole new look. It would be much better if you could change just a few things and achieve a fresh look like that.
Well, you can!
Window treatments have so much impact that they can instantly give your room a lift. If new curtains are out of the question, consider just adding or changing the window valances to give your windows a new look. You can either use the window valances with a cheap window blind or use a contrast valance with your curtain curtains.
One thing a valance can do is to help you bring a new color into your room. Once you have your valance in the new color, you can swap out a few other accessories in the room and replace them with those which match your valance.
For example, if you have a room in natural tones with peach highlights, you could add an olive green and cream valance to your cream curtains, remove the peach accessories and replace them with others in olive green for an entirely new look. Of course, this works best if you have a fairly neutral room as your base.
You can also modify the style of your room using valances. To make a room more formal in nature add an Ascot type valance to your window as this is made up of stiffened geometric shapes and is generally regular in form. To soften the look of your windows use a scarf valance instead as this just drapes loosely over a curtain rod and gives your windows a light, romantic quality.
When you feel like giving a room a fresh look, adding or changing valances can give your room the boost it needs and it can save you a whole redecorating job. Perhaps you could have summer and winter valances and curtains so that you can regularly update your room without having to get out the paint brushes!
