It takes creativity while making Roman blinds, which are perfect to accentuate your home, if you are looking for simplicity and elegance in your room. You can use them as unique window treatment or add a valance to highlight the blinds on the window.

You can start with using a lightweight material and lining fabric while making Roman blinds.   Take accurate measurements of the whole window where you need the blind to be placed. Add another 2 inches to stitch the seam and equal for the sides.

To sew the lining and the basic fabric, put them together and pin it properly. You can stick it together down the two sides and on the bottom, just one inch above the edge. Cut the loose fabric and trim the sides, but cut into the stitching.

Now it is time to turn the fabric onto the right side out. Iron the seams straight and over the fabric. You can flatten the fabric with the lining on the outside. Calculate about 2 inches from the top edge and draw a straight line with a chalk or use a pencil.

You need to now divide the rest of the blind into 8 to 12 inch sections whereas the bottom is at least 4 inches. Now you can cut the fabric into strips of 4 inches in width and you need to have as many as you have marked on the fabric. You need to put a batten on the top so leave 2 inches there.

After doing this, you can insert dowels that are a bit shorter than the width in the pocket which will be folded and ends stitched. Put 2 inch wide plastic rings in the pockets on the two ends and do that for all the panels.

If you are looking to hang your newly created Roman blinds, install two angle brackets to hold the blind’s batten and tuck in at least 1 inch of the lining and fabric and stitch it to close. Secure the front of the batten to the blinds tightly and turn it over to view the lining of the blinds and the other side of the batten.

Add the needed plastic screws and cord guides that will be required to pull the string to open and close. You just hang the lined up blind on the bracket and now your Roman blinds are ready to open and close.  Making roman blinds can be a lot of fun and you design your blinds in anyway you desire to match your decor.

If you are looking  for information on how to install blinds, it is best to start by measuring the inside mount or the window at the sides, top and bottom. Then you need to measure the outside mount at the same places and include the two sides of the castings of the window. Accurate measurements are essential for proper installation of the blinds.

After careful measurements, before installation of the blinds, you need to install the mounting brackets are essential, as they will hold the blinds in place mark the places to be drilled with pencil. Secure the screws in place to install the bracket and install the other bracket the same way.
